A new traffic law taking effect on April 1, 2026 in Japan introduces traffic violation tickets for cyclists. In response, a retail company called Hands has started selling safety gear designed to help cyclists follow the new rules while staying comfortable.

The amended Road Traffic Act will allow police to issue tickets for designated bicycle violations. These include ignoring traffic lights, riding through stop signs, and using smartphones while cycling. Using earphones that block outside sounds is also prohibited. However, open-ear earphones that let riders hear surrounding traffic are considered acceptable.

Hands is now offering a range of products that combine safety with convenience. One popular item is open-ear wireless earphones that do not block the ears. They allow cyclists to listen to music or take calls while still hearing cars and other sounds around them. Another featured product is high-visibility rainwear designed for cycling. These jackets and suits have reflective parts and hoods that do not block the rider's view.

The company also suggests useful accessories for rainy days. These include compact towels that quickly dry wet bicycle seats and shoe covers that protect footwear from rain. A small but powerful LED light helps riders see and be seen in dark conditions.

"We see this law change not just as stricter enforcement, but as an opportunity to update lifestyles for better safety and comfort," a company representative said. The products are available at Hands stores nationwide, helping cyclists prepare for the new rules while maintaining both style and safety.
