簡単英語ニュース – Japan Forest Gets National Recognition for Protecting Nature

日本の森が「自然共生サイト」に認定される

A forest area in Minakami, Gunma, has been officially recognised as a national nature coexistence site. The place, called Kaminobara Iriai no Mori, is known for its mix of grassland and forest, which local people have worked hard to protect. Volunteers and residents have used traditional land management to bring back old grass fields that were slowly disappearing.

One important method is controlled burning, where dry grass is safely burned once a year. This helps stop forests from spreading too much and allows sunlight to reach the ground. As a result, many kinds of plants and animals can return, including some endangered species that need bright, open spaces to survive.

The new recognition means the area will now become a model for how people and nature can live together. Local groups also plan to use the site for environmental learning and community events, helping more people understand why protecting these landscapes is important for the future.
